Kid’s Birthday Party Playlist

The hardest birthday party to DJ is the one with a three-year-old, a ten-year-old, and a couple of tweens all on the same dance floor. Too babyish and the older kids check out. Too current and the little ones lose interest. The set below is built for exactly that mix: songs the whole age range will actually move to, with clean lyrics parents don't have to worry about.

Two songs I'd swap, and why
A few tracks from a standard kids' list are worth a second look for a young, mixed-age crowd:

"Shape of You" (Ed Sheeran) is catchy, but the lyrics are about a one-night bar pickup. Most parents skip it for kids' parties. I swapped in "Cha Cha Slide," which doubles as a group dance the little ones and the older kids can all do together. That kind of "everybody do the same move" song is gold when the ages are all over the place.

"Party in the USA" (Miley Cyrus) is totally clean and still a fun option, just skews a little older. I kept the energy in that slot with "Get the Party Started," which lands across every age. Happy to put "Party in the USA" back if you want it.

How I run the music at a kids' party
The trick with mixed ages is reading the floor and adjusting. I open with the universal movers, drop in a little-kid favorite whenever the youngest guests start to fade, and save the group dances for when everyone's warmed up and ready to follow along. Volume stays at a level where kids can hear each other and parents aren't wincing.

Setup includes a full PA, a wireless mic for the birthday song and any announcements, and dance floor lighting. Bubble and fog effects are available and always a hit with the younger crowd, skippable if the parents would rather keep it simple.
